Third Grade Sight Words: Let’s Color Words! Trace, write, connect the dots and learn to spell!
What’s a frustrated parent to do when their child is having difficulty learning and retaining information in school? In my case, create a fun workbook of sight words to help him learn. This is my first venture into the world of creating educational materials and if you know me, then you know it had to be something FUN! Not a boring workbook with tons of text, a sure fire way to make your child run screaming and crying.
I used the Dolch sight word list for third grade and created, what I hope, is a fun, easy, repetitive learning. The keyword being repetitive as I believe the more a child (even adult) repeats a word either by coloring, tracing, connecting the dots, then the easier it will become to recognize the word when reading and we all know independent reading is essential, particularly when it comes to school (can you say, testing?)
Here are the specifications of the book. I made it large so kids could draw and write even more. In addition, I included connect the dot words at the end of the book because, well, they’re fun! I hope you and your child(ren) enjoy using it as much as I did creating it! 🙂
- 8.5 x 11 paper size.
- Printed on one side of the paper to prevent bleed through.
- 41 words, each repeated 6 times per page.
- Color, trace and connect the dots for each word.
- Lined writing space to practice writing each word.
- 6 pages of connect the dot words at the end of the book.
